Join me at the beautiful studio of Kristin Peres on the vibrant Columbia Rd. this May. Learn how to extract colour from natural sources, dye fabric & make watercolour paints from plants. If you've ever wanted to learn how to naturally dye or make watercolour paints from plants, this class is the perfect starting point to whet your appetite! You'll experiment with simple ingredients & sources of natural colour to create a beautiful palette of natural tones. You'll learn how to expand your palette & shift colours using common ingredients. You'll dye a range of swatches in beautiful natural tones & add these to your dye journal.
Once our fibre is dyed, you'll explore the process of making paint from plants. You'll experiment with a range of plant colours & learn how to expand the palette of natural hues available to you. Then you'll document your discoveries in your dye journal. This is an incredibly satisfying process that combines fibre & paper, texture & tones, alchemy & exploration. A fully immersive experience of natural dyes & plant based paints.
You don't need to bring anything, I will supply everything you need to immerse yourself in the process. You will leave with a beautiful dye journal, filled with naturally dyed linen & handmade paper swatches. Along with your understanding of the natural dye process, you'll leave class knowing how to make dye baths, dye fibres, modify colours & how to make paint from plants.
