No wonder you feel overwhelmed, confused, intimidated, or even disheartened! With that in mind, I've curated my most helpful natural dye resources below to help develop your skills, grow your confidence & fill your life with plant colour!

There’s a lot to absorb when you first learn how to naturally dye, from cleaning your fibre, making your colours stick & figuring out which plants to use.

What Dye Plants Should I Use?

Start with simple kitchen ingredients, like avocado stones or skins, pomegranate rinds, black tea, coffee, or onion skins. For a beginner's manual to natural colour, take a look at 'The Guide To Natural Colour & Plant Dyes'.

What Do I Need To Begin?

You'll need a pot, sodium carbonate (sold as soda ash or washing crystals), a mordant (a magical ingredient that helps the colour fix) something to dye, water, heat & a dye plant.

It is the ancient practice of extracting natural colour from plants, invertebrates, lichens, fungi, or minerals to dye fibre, fabric or textiles naturally.

What Is Natural Dyeing?

Let's START WITH THE BASICS:

Wash & care for your naturally dyed textiles, garments or fibres.

Step 5:

Once the liquid changes colour, add your fibres & watch them transform!

Step 4:

Place plant material in a pot & add heat.

Step 3:

Soak your fibres in a mordanting solution to help fix or bind the colour.

Step 2:

Clean your textiles to remove any oils, waxes or residue hidden in the fibres.
