Learning any new skill for the first time can be overwhelming or daunting. With so much information available online, it can be challenging to know where or how to begin.

When you first start out, I recommend you begin with simple dyes like black tea, coffee, avocado stones, onion skins or pomegranate rinds.

Avocados are a great beginner dye. They are easy to work with and create beautiful shades of salmon, pink and coral. Plus, they contain a naturally occurring ingredient that helps the dye bind to the fibre, making your colours stick to whatever you are dyeing!

What do I need for this mini-course?

What do I need for this mini-course?

One of the beautiful things about getting started with natural dyeing is that you don't need to purchase expensive tools or equipment. Natural dyeing is similar to cooking and involves supplies that can be found in the kitchen.

All you need to begin is a stove, a pot filled with tap water, a few avocado stones, skins or both. You'll need a wooden spoon, sieve or strainer & soda crystals (baking soda will do for your first experiment). You'll also need something to dye or experiment on!

What should I use to dye?

When first starting, you can look around your home for well-loved items that are no longer in use or could do with a revival! Examples include napkins, tea towels, pillowcases, old sheets, t-shirts or tops.

I CAN'T WAIT TO SHARE THIS WITH YOU!
