If you’re looking for something creative to do with your time, my next natural dye workshop is on the calendar & it’s going to be a good one. This is my favourite workshop to teach, introducing students to the process of natural dyeing.
If you have ever wanted to learn how natural dyeing works, this natural dye workshop is a great starting point. You’ll spend the morning going over the essential steps, learn about sources of natural colour & how to apply these to your textiles. Using simple ingredients found in our kitchens, gardens or neighbourhoods; you’ll make dye baths, extract a range of natural colours and dye your own cotton or silk scarf (your choice).
What will we learn in the workshop?
We will work with a variety of natural fibres; linen, cotton, wool, silk & alpaca while learning about their affinity to plant dyes. When you are comfortable with the basics, we’ll look at how to expand your palette & change the colours of your dye baths using common household ingredients.
You’ll learn about sources of plant colour, where they come from and where you can access dye sources throughout the year. Once you are comfortable with the process & colours, you will have the opportunity to dye your very own cotton scarf or silk neckpiece.
There is an alchemy to the process of working with plants, extracting their colour & dyeing textiles. From the plants themselves to the aromas of the dye baths & the transformative nature of colour in its purest form. It is absolute magic and I hope you can come join me in my studio and let me share this incredible process with you. If you can’t make it to this one, my next introduction to natural dyes will be held on Saturday, September 9th.
Where is the workshop?
This is a 4-hour workshop that is held from my studio in Harolds Cross, Dublin 6W. I like to keep the number in the groups small so we can work in the most enjoyable way possible. I provide a light lunch and all the materials you will need so you don’t have to bring anything except yourself! For those of you that drive, there is plenty of free parking onsite (always a bonus).
This workshop has sold out, you can view upcoming workshops here & if you have any questions about the workshops, please be sure to get in touch. I’s love to welcome you to a workshop 🙂
x Kathryn
