Hands on learning
Learning how to extract colour from natural sources & dye fibres, fabrics, textiles or garments is a great way to build your knowledge while preserving & reviving traditional arts.
We all learn differently but if you're anything like me, I need to see a process in action to grasp it fully. While books, tutorials & articles have their merit, theres nothing quite like the understanding that comes from immersing yourself fully in a process and being able to ask questions as they arise.
Whether you're an amateur natural dyer or you simply like to dip your toes in all kids of creative pursuits, my natural dye workshops are a wonderful way to spend your time, meet new people & add an incredibly valuable skill to your repertoire.
If you're looking for someone to gently guide you through the process from start to finish in a relaxing environment then you've come to the right place.
I wanted to say a massive thank you for the workshop you did with us! It was so brilliant & super relaxing
to hear you talk so passionately.

“It was honestly the best workshop I have ever been to. I left the room with a new perspective & inspiration.”
I think that was the best aspect of it, allowing us to see the whole process, and doing it hands on (with guidance, but not too much guidance where it would feel too structured) and allowing us to play and explore and experiment and have our own incentive in a space that encouraged that.
- KAROLINA GNIADO, DUBLIN
" It was great after reading so much to finally try things out and it's totally inspired me to start having a go myself.”
I've been experimenting with avocado, tea and turmeric again on some scrap cotton that I have and have managed to make so many different colours - it's loads of fun experimenting! I have a big fig tree in the garden so I'm soaking some leaves currently to see what happens!

"I attended Kathryn's Indigo workshop & had such a great day. Kathryn did a really lovely job of explaining everything to us
& gave us so many opportunities to work through the techniques ourselves. It was a very hands-on experience and surprisingly peaceful. Everyone in the group was super nice and really easy to talk to and Kathryn made us all feel so welcome. Definitely an experience to be repeated!"
- JOANNE ALLEN, DUBLIN
"And thank you again for Saturday. We really enjoyed the workshop - learning about the dyeing process has given us a heightened appreciation of all hand-dyed textiles!"
- EMER MCMANUS, IRELAND
