Hi, I'm kathryn

My dear friend and incredibly talented photographer, Doreen Kilfeather, is having an exhibition in collaboration with stylist Aisling Farinella. Buí will be on show at the Sarah Walker Gallery from June 1st to 30th, 2024. If you are out west, I highly recommend a trip to the fishing town of Castletownbere, Cork. The gallery is in an old store warehouse on the waterfront and is worth visiting.

Buí

The exhibition, Buí, is a collection of photographs featuring Elsa Murray and fashion by Simone Rocha, which was shot on location at Bothar Buí, West Cork. The images, created in the winter and summer seasons of 2020/21, weave themes of retreat, domesticity, women, and nature. The images for the exhibition were shot in medium-format film. Printed on a range of Hahnemühle fine art paper and Japanese Awagami papers. Limited editions of a selection of prints will be available.

Buí means yellow in Irish.

Bothar Buí

The Photographer

Doreen Kilfeather is a Dublin-based photographer specialising in portraiture and fashion photography. Her work is defined by a deep understanding of light and shadow and a sense of intimacy and connection. Her personal projects focus on her family and friends and their children. She returns to these communities of friends each year to document the feeling of being a child, an adolescent, or a young adult in portraits that capture both the person and a sense of the place they occupy.

The Creative Director

Aisling Farinella is a stylist, creative director and consultant working across fashion and cultural platforms. A sought-after stylist, her work is featured in prominent Irish and international publications. Her individual styling aesthetic is conveyed through a naturalistic approach and a love for elevating portraiture through fashion.

Bothar Buí

Bothar Buí

The images were shot in & around Bothar Buí, which is located on a secluded hillside on the Beara peninsula. Designed by renowned Irish architect Robin Walker, this modernist assemblage of farm buildings and contemporary structures has been a retreat for artists, writers, poets, musicians, families and friends since the 1960s. Superfolk wrote a lovely article about Bother Buí with some fantastic photos of the place. This architectural gem is owned by the family of artist Sarah Walker. The images will be on view at the ‘Sarah Walker Gallery’ from 11 am to 6 pm throughout June.
